My Travels

I have been privileged to have had so many opportunities to travel and see the world. So I thought I’d be a pretentious braggart and list off all the countries that I have been able to visit (in chronological order). But really when you look at the map, and consider how big a country like Canada or Russia is, I really haven’t visited that many places. For example, I have never set foot in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland, the Northwest Territories or Nunavut in Canada. In other words, I’ve only visited five provinces and one of the territories; not even half of them! I do intend to write a little more in depth about my experiences in each country that I’ve lived in at some point to add some more content to the site.

I suppose it is worth defining what counts as a “visit.” To me, visiting a country means having left the airport and seen or done something unique to the place. For example, I have probably spent the shortest amount of time in Montenegro, just visiting the coastal city of Ulcinj for an afternoon/early evening before returning to the place where I was staying in Shkodër, Albania. Half of the time was spent sitting on the beach, but then I walked through some of the old town, near the castle, and that made it feel like I had actually experienced something! If I just change planes, or go into a hotel and depart the following day without seeing or doing anything, it just seems like I might as well have been at home.
